Hello love! Welcome back to my space!!! I am so excited to be starting my very own smoothie challenge! I joined Jasmine, of Diary of a Mad Black Vegan smoothie challenge for the month of July and the results were amazing!!! Let’s talk about it! Since having a smoothie a day for the last 31 days I have experienced:
- my skin has cleared up
- reduced bloating
- increased energy
- making healthier food choices throughout the day
- extremely regular digestion
- increased clarity
- weight loss
You can’t argue with those benefits so I’ve decided to keep the party going! One of the things I loved about the smoothie challenge was the accountability! There were definitely days that I didn’t want to drink a smoothie but I did it anyway and I was definitely better for it! Having a smoothie a day, especially a healthy one, is such a great habit to have! It’s pretty simple! All you have to do is:
- Make at least one smoothie a day every day in the month of August.
- Name the smoothie (this is totally optional but it makes it more fun)
- Take a picture of the smoothie (you can totally be in the picture enjoying your smoothie if that’s what you’re into)
- Share the picture in your stories or on your feed and tag me @shamelesslyfabulous and use the hashtag #sfsmoothiechallenge
And boom, accountability for a healthy habit!!!Let’s do it! I will say that I tend to lean toward a healthier smoothie so that if I derail from healthy eating during the day, I can say that I at least had one nutritionally dense meal. I also prefer to add water instead of plant based milks however, you should do what feel right for you!
Shopping List
There are definitely things you will need to have to embark upon this smoothie challenge! Most of the things on this list are optional! If you don’t like certain ingredients , don’t buy them! Stick to the ingredients that you love!
Frozen Fruit: I love keeping frozen fruit on hand! It makes it easy to have a smoothie daily if you keep your freezer stocked with a few bags of frozen fruits! My top three favorites are: mixed berry, mango and pineapple!
- Mixed Berries
- Blueberries
- Pineapple
- Mango
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Bananas
- Peaches
- Cherries
Nuts and seeds: I use nuts and seeds sparingly to add creaminess/extra protein/fat to my smoothies!
- Chia Seeds
- Hemp Seeds
- Flax Seeds
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Raw Cashews
- Almonds
Vegetables: My preferred vegetable to add to my smoothies is spinach! I add just enough to get my daily dose of greens but not enough to make it taste too green.
- Kale
- Spinach
- Cucumber
- Carrots
Fresh Fruit: I love having juicy fruits like oranges and watermelon on hand so that I don’t have to use much liquid.
- Oranges
- Watermelon
- Banana
- Mango
- Peaches
- Limes
- Lemon
- Dates
Spices: I use spices to add a little more flavor to my smoothies.
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla
- Cardamom
- Nutmeg
- Ginger
Liquid: As I said before I prefer to use water in my smoothies but if you want them to be creamier and more dense, definitely hit up those plant milks!
- Coconut Milk
- Almond Milk
- Cashew Milk
- Water
- Sesame Milk
Miscellaneous:
- Cacao nibs
- Cacao powder
- Shredded coconut
- Maca root powder
- Almond butter
- Peanut butter
- Tahini
- Protein Powder
- Oats
- Agave Nectar
- Maple Syrup
- Plant Based Yogurt
Before we get into these recipes know that you can opt out of any of the ingredients but doing so will change the consistency of the smoothie! Also, if you desire a sweeter smoothie you can add: dates, maple syrup, agave or any other sweetener you like! I tend to taste and adjust the flavors of my smoothies before adding them to my mason jar!
